Hope you are all having an amazing summer. I know we don’t want to yet think about fall, but here at United Way we are getting ready for back to school with our GenNext ‘Best First Day’ Backpack Drive. Every year the need grows and this year is no different. We have had a request to support the children from the First Nations, Metis and Inuit (FNMI) schools in our area this impacts approximately 350 kids, but this is an all or nothing situation and the need is staggering. We need to collect an extra 350 backpacks- can you help us make this the ‘best first Day ever’?

Charity Beach Volleyball Tournament
Dear Warriors,

Are you devastated there’s no Xtreme Warrior Challenge this year?? We are too! We couldn’t go through the fall without hosting a fun and athletic event though, so here it is! The Jesse’s Journey First Annual Charity Beach Volleyball Tournament.

Hosted at Spike’s Indoor Beach Volleyball, this is a rain or shine event and a great night out. 2 co-ed divisions are available: Competitive 4s and Recreational 6s (min. 50% female players). Pre-register your team at www.jessesjourney.com/volleyball and come join us for some fun in the sand. All proceeds help fund Duchenne muscular dystrophy research!

Competitive 4s – $120, Recreational 6s – $180
May have up to 2 subs included in the team registration fee
Minimum 50% female players on each team
Check-in 6:30pm, games start 7:00pm
Each team will play 8 games, plus playoffs (if eligible)

Thank you to all who came out and participated, it was a blast.

Come on out and walk with your brothers and sisters of Cupe 101 this Sunday July 30 in the London Pride Parade.

The parade starts at 12:30 from the Western Fair Ground, so please come at 12:00 for easy set up. The theme this year is super heroes. Come as your favourite super hero or create your own.

Our meeting place will be near the casino.

Helpful hints for those who are coming, have good walking shoes and cool omfortable wear, leave a vehicle downtown near Victoria Park for ease of getting back to the fair grounds for other cars.

The Ontario Government is about to fast track legislation that will have significant impact on many of our locals that you need to be aware of.

CUPE Ontario is holding a telephone town hall in conjunction with CUPE National to make sure you have all the critical details and are aware of what we will be doing in response. The call will take include local leadership, all CUPE Ontario committees, executive board members, national staff and district council presidents.

Many of he details of the government’s proposed changing workplaces legislation could directly affect your collective agreements and we have a very short window in which to respond. We’re asking all of you to be on the call so you have all the details you need.

10:00am – 12:30pm – Western Fair District Parking Lot (Off Rectory Street) Parade starts at 12:30
The 23rd Annual Pride Parade formation will take place in the Western Fair District parking lot. All participants are asked to meet just inside the Rectory Street entrance, where you will be given additional information about where to assemble your float/group. All personal vehicles will be asked to park at the Western Fair Farmers’ Market at the corner of Dundas Street & Ontario Street to allow room for the parade formation.
